Volkswagen Golf GTD SportWagen 2016 Review

In January, waxed lyrical about newly revealed car that meets all the clichés of a car equipped journalist Dream Car Volkswagen Golf GTD sports car, a diesel truck with a box standard manual transmission. And GTD, of course, means a fast diesel oil burner equivalent of a GTI. Now that we have spent some time behind the wheel, they seemed dream car has lived up to our expectations?

The sports car GTD (Europe version is called GTD) is known 2.0-liter TDI Volkswagen Group a very robust turbo diesel engine that produces 184 horsepower 3500-4000 rpm and 280 pound-feet of torque from just 1750 rpm driven. In GTD, it sounds downright athletic, and appreciate the car catapults to 60 mph in 7.9 seconds. The maximum read speed of 144 kilometers per hour, and judging by the way this car pulls up to 100 kilometers per hour and beyond, this is not just a hypothetical figure, at least in that can be exercised, as in Europe.

The GTD wagon simply indicates a new 40 mpg or less and is much more fun than any hybrid recently led us to bring supporters shouted electrified mobility.

Sure, a diesel engine is a little heavier than a gasoline engine, and despite the relatively light use of the MQB architecture that GTD car tips the scales at something like 3300 pounds. But VW chassis modifications to mitigate these facts. For example, the GTD feel inferior to that of a regular field; It is equipped with 225/45 tires on 17-inch wheels (expandable to 40 series rubber wheels and 18 inches) long; It has a stability control system with a Sport mode, which allows more wheel spin; and it comes with a brake-based feature that simulates a limited slip differential for greater agility. Add to that a good system of weighted steering, and you get a harmless diesel Combi, who likes to recharge the mountain roads and hunting for sport coupes.

The six-speed manual transmission is so smooth that not even think about the six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic as the disengagement is fun for gasoline cars DSG not create much effect equipped with diesel lazy.

Rewarding drive fast, but comfortable enough to hide your dark than they could reject a harder-core transport, GTD comes with many subtle design cues that nod to the past side. When VW released the first GTD 1982 based on the first-generation Golf (aka Rabbit), he mimicked the look of the GTI, but the red accents on the grille was replaced by silver. The same is true for today GTD. Otherwise SPTF GTI visually mimic its aggressive front and rear fascias and subtly. The twist is that the golf car not even come as a GTI.

In the US market, it would be more like the sports car GTD (next to the Golf TDI sports cars) BMW 328d truck, and Bayerische VW would give a run for their money. If only US diesel fuel prices were lower, VW would do well to start this fun and meaningful drive in the US ..
